NWEC awards a $1,000 scholarship each year to a graduating senior from a member household. Established in 2001 to honor two men who gave their lives to service.
A legacy of service to our cooperative and our communities.
The Fanning-Fussell Scholarship was established in 2001 in memory of Max Fanning and in honor of Thurman Fussell, recognizing their service to the cooperative and to their communities.
Thurman Fussell retired after 34 years with the cooperative and continued serving his community until his passing in June 2025. His legacy, and Max Fanning's, lives on in every student we support.
Who qualifies
Recipients are chosen by the NWEC Board of Directors Scholarship Committee from applicants who meet the eligibility requirements.
Be a senior
The applicant must be a senior preparing to graduate.
Live in an NWEC household
The applicant must live in a household served by Northwestern Electric Cooperative.
Use it for school
The $1,000 award covers one year of tuition, books, and room and board only.
